Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Central Scheduler to join our team at Falmouth Hospital.   

SUMMARY :                                                 

Schedules multiple facilities, service, and procedures.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Must be courteous to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

Schedules multiple facilities, procedures, services, technical resource staff i.e. Radiology, Radiologists, Dietitians.

Acts as liaison for MD offices/ receives all appointment calls.

Updates schedule for multiple departments.

Knowledge of procedure preps, able to answer questions.

Distributes prep kits when applicable.

Confirms appointments.

Prints and distributes all daily schedules to various locations and departments.

Pre-registrations of booked appointments.

Knowledge of various insurance authorization/referral requirements.

Knowledge of Medical Necessity requirements for Medicare/Blue Cross carriers.

Interacts with Department Managers/Supervisors, Technical staff, Physicians, Nursing, and Nursing Management.

Downloads and mails all confirmation letters and preps.

Opens and closes procedure exam rooms.

Knowledge of scheduling dictionaries.

Prints and reconciles no show patient report.

Counsels patients financially.

Excellent telephone skills.

Responsible for checking the validity of the physician's order/requisition for Medical Necessity, and proper physician signatures.

Issue Advance Beneficiary Notices for reimbursement of non-covered booked procedures.

Performs tasks as a Registration Rep as needed.                                                


QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.



Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE    High school diploma or general education degree (GED);  one year experience in medical field.  Type at a minimum of 30 wpm.  Completed Medical Terminology Course or must successfully pass the Hospital Medical Terminology Test.
