Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Pharmacist to join our team at Falmouth Hospital.

Under direction of Management or Designee, performs a variety of professional services and responsibilities related to the clinical review and dispensing of outpatient and nursing home drug therapy.  Provides technical direction and supervision of assigned personnel. 



1.     Reviews and interprets orders for patients.  Inputs all prescriptions with appropriate elements including, but not limited to, patient profiles for the presence of incompatibilities, allergies, contraindications, warnings, side-effects, interactions, or inappropriate medication utilization. 

2.     Takes appropriate action to resolve medication issues. 

3.     Ensures adequate stock of medication and proper processing of all documents including invoices. 

4.     Complies with all Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations in the dispensing of all medications and in the maintenance of required records. 

5.     Communicates and interacts with all customers, including patients, employees, and family members. 

6.     Efficiently direct the workflow of the pharmacy, from initial prescription intake through filling and dispensing.

7.     Offer front line trouble shooting of systems.  Seek additional assistance as needed to maintain functionality.

8.     Seek to optimize revenues. Look for opportunities for business expansion. 

9.     Stays current with pharmacy trends and medication therapies.

10.  Provides mandatory patient counseling to facilitate appropriate drug therapy and education.  Discusses all concerns regarding patient drug therapy with appropriate health care providers, utilizing all available resources and offering appropriate recommendations when indicated.

11.  Focuses on the customer as a patient and prioritizes workload to ensure customer satisfaction.  Anticipates and responds to patient needs and ensures patient understanding and compliance through proactive counseling.  Addresses customer concerns and complaints related to service delivery, promptly and courteously both in person and on the telephone.

12.  Refers unresolved issues or issues outside scope of responsibility to the Pharmacist Supervisor or Manager as appropriate.

13.  Provides consistent, professional supervision and direction to  supporting personnel

14.  Maintains proficiency with all essential functions of Pharmacy computer system and Point of Sale. 

15.  Maintains a thorough understanding and ensures compliance of all regulatory and departmental policy and procedures. 

16.  Keeps current with third party billing practices and resolve issues.

17.  Work with long term care facility (JML) to provide bubble packed prescriptions and medication counseling.

18.  Ensures implementation of cost containment strategies (Pre-Pack, Front-End Process, Cycle-Fill, etc.) occurs on all dispensing and procurement activities.

19.  Work with long term care facility to follow formulary.

20.  Completes all cash and accounting reports as required. 

21.  Maintains a working knowledge of 340B regulations.

22.  Supervise a meds to beds program.

23.  Supervise a prescription delivery/mail order program.

24.  Supervise specialty medication workflow. 

25.  Maintains a working knowledge of all pharmacy equipment.

26.  Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Pharmacy or Pharm D is required. 
  • Must be a Registered Pharmacist licensed by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy. 
  • BLS certification required within one year of hire.
  • One (1) year of related experience is preferred.  Consideration is given to new graduates.
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Medication Therapy Management Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Immunization Certification required within 1 year of hire.
  • Read, write and communicate in English
