Job Details

Under direction of the Manager, or designee, perform duties to support the Community Pharmacy including assisting Pharmacists with processing prescriptions.
  • Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies.
  • Processes both new and refill prescriptions
  • Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software.
  • Maintains knowledge base of brand and generic drug names as well as dosage forms.
  • Counts and labels products as assigned.
  • Screens telephone calls and answers inquiries within scope of Pharmacy Tech certification.
  • Obtains refill authorizations by communicating effectively with prescribers.
  • Communicates with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims.
  • Compounds oral and topical medications.
  • Assists in orienting and training new staff.
  • Prioritizes workload so that all customers are serviced in a timely manner.
  • Greet all customers politely and in a timely manner, both in person and on the telephone.
  • Strive to satisfy patients by listening to their needs and responding appropriately.
  • Verifies, at point of sale, that customers receive correct prescription(s).
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy computer system.
  • Inputs all required information to create and update patient profiles.
  • Maintains POS product database.
  • Resolves routine problems relating to the Pharmacy computer system.
  • Generates, maintains and files all required reports.
  • Processes vendor and distribution center orders and returns.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all Pharmacy equipment.
  • Accurately processes all sales including check and credit card transactions.
  • Reconciles cash register at end of shift and reconciles discrepancies.
  • Reorders required stock from wholesaler, vendors or storeroom to maintain stock levels.
  • Receives orders, applies appropriate budget codes and processes returns. Follows-up on backorders.
  • Rotates and maintains stock.
  • Processes all invoices and purchase orders in accordance with established accounting procedures.
  • Operates handheld inventory device and participates in periodic inventories.
  • Processes and tracks returns to reverse distributor.
  • Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Maintains awareness of security processes, loss prevention techniques, causes and prevention of shrinkage and recognizes suspicious behavior. Reports all questionable practices to management.
  • Deliver medications to patients.
  • Transport medications and/or medical devices and retrieve items from remote locations in order to expedite servicing the patient.
  • Assist pharmacist in servicing nursing home patients.
  • Deliver medication to nursing home.
  • Stays current with Pharmacy trends.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification.
  • One year recent experience as PTCB Certified and registered Technician (within the past 3 years) required; 3 years preferred.
  • Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Schedule Details: 28 Hours per week 56PP, 7a-3p, 8a-4p, 9a-5p, 11a-7p, 8a-6p, 9a-7p, 9a-9p, 7a-7p, e/o weekend, e/o holiday
