Job Details: Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Community Pharmacy Tech to join our team at Falmouth Hospital.   



Under direction of the Manager, or designee, perform duties to support the Community Pharmacy including assisting Pharmacists with processing prescriptions.



1.      Assists the Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions according to all departmental policies. Processes both new and refill prescriptions

2.      Obtains all required customer and/or insurance information and enters into pharmacy software.

3.      Maintains knowledge base of brand and generic drug names as well as dosage forms.

4.      Counts and labels products as assigned.

5.      Screens telephone calls and answers inquiries within scope of Pharmacy Tech certification.

6.      Obtains refill authorizations by communicating effectively with prescribers.

7.      Communicates with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims. 

8.      Compounds oral and topical medications. 

9.      Assists in orienting and training new staff. 

10.  Prioritizes workload so that all customers are serviced in a timely manner.

11.  Greet all customers politely and in a timely manner, both in person and on the telephone.  Strive to satisfy patients by listening to their needs and responding appropriately.

12.  Verifies, at point of sale, that customers receive correct prescription(s).

13.  Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Pharmacy computer system. Inputs all required information to create and update patient profiles. Maintains POS product database. Resolves routine problems relating to the Pharmacy computer system. Generates, maintains and files all required reports. 

14.  Processes vendor and distribution center orders and returns.

15.  Maintains working knowledge of all Pharmacy equipment.  

16.  Accurately processes all sales including check and credit card transactions. Reconciles cash register at end of shift and reconciles discrepancies.

17.  Reorders required stock from wholesaler, vendors or storeroom to maintain stock levels. Receives orders, applies appropriate budget codes and processes returns. Follows-up on backorders. Rotates and maintains stock.

18.  Processes all invoices and purchase orders in accordance with established accounting procedures.

19.  Operates handheld inventory device and participates in periodic inventories.  Processes and tracks returns to reverse distributor.

20.  Complies with the general laws and regulations governing the dispensing of prescriptions.

21.  Maintains awareness of security processes, loss prevention techniques, causes and prevention of shrinkage and recognizes suspicious behavior.  Reports all questionable practices to management.

22.  Deliver medications to patients.

23.  Transport medications and/or medical devices and retrieve items from remote locations in order to expedite servicing the patient. 

24.  Assist pharmacist in servicing nursing home patients.

25.  Deliver medication to nursing home.

26.  Stays current with Pharmacy trends.

27.  Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested.

·        Ability to read, write and communicate in English.

·        High School graduate or GED.

·        Massachusetts state registration as a Pharmacy Technician. 

·        Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification. 

·        One year recent experience as PTCB Certified and registered Technician (within the past 3 years) required; 3 years preferred. 

·        Duties require very good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
