GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Dean provides strategic leadership and direction within the Division of Teaching and Learning Resources and Technology, supporting our students, faculty, and staff. The Dean is responsible for providing leadership and support to the professional staff assigned to the area including Wilkens Library, Nickerson Archives, Tutoring Center, Writing and Math Centers, Teaching & Learning Center, and Media Services; oversees external accreditation and periodic internal program review; supports the use of technology, and innovative pedagogy to improve student learning and success; monitors local, regional and national trends to ensure programs and resources meet workforce and transfer pathways; supports faculty acquisition of learning resources, including innovative use and acquisition of open educational resources; implements College administrative and academic policies and procedures; participates in hiring and evaluating staff job performance; implements collective bargaining agreements; develops schedule for hours of operation; develops and executes divisional and area budgets; assists with writing and managing grants for the division; and collaborates with community college and regional partners.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

A.    Personnel Management and Supervision

1.    Serves as the administrator of the Division, supervising, hiring, and conducting annual performance appraisals of all full-time professional and support staff, as appropriate.
2.    Encourages staff excellence in performing job duties and professional development.
3.    Encourages collaboration within the Division and across College departments.
4.    Implements collective bargaining agreements as they relate to members of the Division and consults with the Human Resources Office in implementation of the collective bargaining agreements.
5.    Leads the assessment of effectiveness of programs and services provided by the division.
6.    Makes recommendations to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs on staff recruitment, full-time and part-time appointments, reappointments, salary adjustments, promotions, sabbaticals, tenure and leaves of absence for all personnel in the Division, day and evening.
7.    Conducts at least one Division meeting in fall and spring semesters.
8.    Approves time and attendance for all staff in the division.

B.    Program/Services and Process Improvement

1.    Collaborates with faculty, Coordinator of the Library and library staff in developing, reviewing, and revising information literacy curriculum and related information literacy learning resources and assessments of student learning outcomes.
2.    Supports the Coordinator of Learning Resources to provide effective tutoring and learning support services according to the standards of the College Reading and Learning Association.
3.    Leads the division in planning, implementation, and evaluation of existing and new programs, resources, including expanded online databases and resources and evaluation of usage.
4.    Understands the interface between people, information, and technology while enabling the future of library and information services supporting student success.   
5.    Collaborates with academic and student services divisions to enhance and improve programs and services in the division.
6.    Reviews and revises, as appropriate, all information regarding division programs, services and procedures found in the catalog and on www.capecod.org , Student Handbook, and Academic Policy and Standards Manual.
7.    Maintains appropriate records for student and community usage of programs and services.
8.    Collaborates with the Coordinator of the Library and library professional staff to review and maintain partnership agreements (CLAMS etc.) and related regulations and standards of library practice (Association of College & Research Librarians).
9.    Communicates and implements administrative, Board, and academic policies for division staff.
10.    Provides information and support to other areas of the College.

C.    General Administrative Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Coordinates and manages cost center budgets to support the College’s strategic plan.
2.    Approves all expenditures by members of the Division, regardless of source of funding.
3.    Acts on all staff requests for attendance at professional conferences and meeting in consulting with the President or Vice President.
4.    Recommends travel requests to the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs.
5.    Ensures that Division policies and procedures are consistent with institutional policies and procedures.
6.    Represents the Division on College committees.  Serves on committees as assigned.
7.    Serves as a Title IX Officer/Students for the College.
8.    Prepares information in digital and print formats for a variety of publications including College catalogs, college website, brochures, in cooperation with the Vice President of Academic & Student Affairs and submits material to the Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing for publication.
9.    Other duties as assigned.

D.    Professional and External Affairs Management

1.    Attends and represents the College at statewide affinity groups and other meetings, conventions, seminars, workshops, etc., as appropriate.  
2.    Supports and assists division staff meet their needs for professional development.
3.    Supports outreach activities to the community to encourage utilization of library resources and services.
4.    Holds regular meetings with appropriate faculty and staff to review and evaluate policies and procedures.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Master’s degree from an accredited institution in library science, instructional technology systems, higher education administration, or other closely related field.
2.    Minimum five (5) years of learning management system administration, or library administration, or instructional technology-related work experience in a higher education environment.
3.    Minimum of five (5) years of experience in developing and implementing assessment of programs and services, and/or assessment of student learning.
4.    Minimum three (3) years management experience in post-secondary institutions at the director or dean position.
5.    Experience working with diverse populations to create an inclusive and collegial campus climate.
6.    Familiarity with Title IX and ability to be certified as Title IX Officer/Students.
7.    Demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive community college mission.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.    Undergraduate teaching experience.

COMPENSATION:  Full-time, Non-Unit Professional Position.  Annual Salary Range of $97,500-$105,000, dependent upon qualifications.  Includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program.
