Job Details

Observes and participates in a variety of duties in the areas of Dosimetry treatment planning protection and safety as they relate to Radiation Therapy.
  • Accounts for Geometrical variations in the shape of the irradiated field; reports each shape of field, dosage necessary behind each shape, and distribution of does for each setting. Prepares dose calculations & checks calibrations with supervision.
  • Views X-Rays for positions and size of lesions; makes contour of patient; inputs information into the computer to simulate patient’s condition.
  • Identifies position of vital structures surrounding lesion and determines areas and amount of radiation received by those areas through fields.
  • Prepares patient’s daily treatment records. Review physics component of records at various intervals for Quality Assurance.
  • Fabricates cerrobend blocks for irregular shaped fields. Confirms their accuracy.
  • Prepares brachytherapy sources for implantation in patient, calculates dose distributions from brachytherapy sources. Returns used sources to vendor.
  • Provides clinical education for student technologists and nurses.
  • Implements radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
  • Communicate with physicians on patient treatment.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
  • Works cooperatively and communicates with all staff and patients

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • (1) Must have completed a formal Dosimetry training program of at least one year or have a Baccalaureate or higher degree in a relevant scientific field
  • Board Certified by the medical Dosimetrist certification board.
    Dosimetrist applicants that are certified (Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD)), OR Dosimetrists that currently hold the position and achieve certification will be placed at grade 19D.

Schedule Details: 40 hours per week, 7a-3p, 8a-4p, 9a-5p Monday-Friday
