Job Details:

Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated L.P.N.  to join our team at Cape Cod Hospital.



To perform a wide variety of patient care activities in a medical office

setting in accordance with established policies, practices and procedures.




1.  Under the direct supervision of the Physician or Practice Manager, assist in

    providing nursing care to office patients.  Triage and evaluate patients,

    obtain major complaints and brief medical history when necessary and take

    vital signs with complete chart documentation (including name, medical

    record #, allergies, current medications with routine update with each     



2.  Obtain patient's current medication regimen, refill medication orders in

    the office or over the telephone under a physician's supervision and

    document same.  Assist physician with pap smears and minor surgical



3.  Track and monitor results of laboratory work and other outside tests,

    record results of pap smears, mammograms, etc.  Implement physician's

    orders for EKG's, Holter monitors, dressing changes, suture removal, ear

    lavages, routine injections, phlebotomy, with proper labeling and spinning

    of specimens for delivery to CCH laboratory.  Obtain consents for injections

    when required.


4.  Answer general health questions for patients via telephone or in office

    with advice, referral, or appointment under physician's direction.  Triage

    telephone calls with complete follow-through.


5.  Maintain, order and stock necessary supplies, equipment, precautionary cart

    and pharmaceuticals weekly.  Clean EKG machine, scrubbing and bagging any

    instruments and closing procedures at night.



6.  Obtain verbal and written reports from outside agencies such as, VNA,

    radiology, or other physician's office with timely, concise transmittal to



7.  Assist with secretarial/clerical duties as needed including scheduling,

    greeting and registering patients, filing incoming paperwork, copying

    medical records, answering phones, taking messages and faxing.


8.  Generate lab reports from Cape Cod Hospital and CICSS when necessary.

    Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of information.  Knowledge of  

    keyboarding and accessing PCI reports from Hospital Information system.


9.  Cross-coverage due to illness, vacation or unexpected absences for all PCI

    physicians in Hyannis.


10. Maintain current CEU requirements required by licensing board and provide  

    documentation to supervisor every two years.


11.  Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the position, department

     and hospital as defined in the scope of service, to assure that the

     unique nature of the patient served is addressed, and it includes, but is

     not limited to the age of patients served. 


12.  Perform other work related duties as requested/directed.  Works

     cooperatively with co-workers and communicate politely with department

     employees, patients, visitors and other personnel within and outside the

Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program with previous experience, preferably within a medical office setting. Currently licensed as a Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  Current Basic Life Support certification.  Successful passage of the Cape Cod Hospital pharmacology exam. Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
