Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures utilizing radio pharmaceuticals and equipment for the diagnosis of disease of designated anatomical areas as ordered/directed, according to established practices and procedures to assure delivery of quality services and care for patients.
  • Performs Nuclear Medicine radiographic studies; determines appropriate isotope required; obtains patient history and reviews patient condition.
    • Schedules patients ensuring optimum, effective and efficient use of equipment and personnel.
    • Identify, interview and screen patient ensuring quality patient care.
  • Prepare, calculates, and administers isotope dosage accurately following established departmental procedures as prescribed by physician observing all health and safety precautions; accurately records dosage administered. Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains adequate records of radioisotope received, used, stored, and disposed in accordance with State and Federal regulations governing the accountability for radioactive material.
  • Record all required information to provide permanent records of significant functional and/or anatomic or pathologic data obtained, or any pertinent information that may be used for utilization review or State requests.
  • Maintain, set-up and adjust equipment; perform periodic calibration of equipment.
    • Select appropriate parameters to optimally visualize and obtain photographic record of diagnostic images.
    • Ensures that preventive maintenance is performed according to established schedule.
    • Instructs and demonstrates nuclear medicine equipment operation, filming, and other technical aspects for professional staff and students as is needed.
    • Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and reports delays in service to supervisor
  • Produces radiographic images using automatic developing equipment and ensures films are of acceptable diagnostic quality and completeness.
    • Perform daily cleaning procedures and shuts down processor at completion of shift.
  • Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the Massachusetts State Licensing Board.
  • Participates in the evaluation of new procedures by collecting and processing data relevant to nuclear medicine.

  • Maintain harmonious and cooperative relations with fellow employees, medical staff, patients and guests.
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned or requested.

  • High school graduate or equivalent;
  • Graduate of Committee of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (AMA) Accredited Radiography Program, or equivalent;
  • Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board;
  • Valid Massachusetts State License.
  • CPR required.
