Job Details: Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.  With more than 450 physicians, 4,700 employees, and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare operates two-acute care hospitals, the Cape's leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility (JML Care Center), an assisted living facility (Heritage at Falmouth), the Cape's only local laboratory service (CCHC Laboratory Services) and numerous health programs.  We are currently seeking a dedicated Nurse Manager, Critical Care to join our team at Falmouth Hospital.

The manager plans budgets, organizes, staffs and directs the activities of the ICU and MSI.  Functions independently within broad scope of established policies and procedures. Manages nursing and related activities of patient care in accordance with professional standards, regulating agencies and Falmouth Hospital guidelines.



1.            Supervises the clinical services and acts as liaison between emergency department, inpatient areas and physicians. Maintains active communication among the medical, surgical and cardiology staff to ensure quality care and competency.  Communicates issues and concerns to Director of  Nursing.

2.            Implements nursing care in accordance with hospital and department policy procedure, CDC or regulatory requirements.  Monitors, revises and adapts current nursing practice based on age specific criteria, evidence based practice.

3.            Ensures a safe, supportive environment for department staff, medical staff and patients.

4.            Participates in and promotes the department's quality improvement program, including department specific measures as well as other related programs. 

5.            Maintains current knowledge of Joint Commission, AACN,, CDC, CMS, Department of Health and other regulatory standards.  

6.            Provides staffing plan to ensure safe - quality patient care.  Monitors patient flow to assure that these functions are complete and efficient as possible. Manages and adjusts the daily schedule as needed.              

7.            Evaluates assigned staff performance based on standards of care continually throughout the year and provides each employee an annual appraisal utilizing the Performance Manager system.

8.            Meets with employees to discuss practice changes and position expectations.  Delegates necessary authority and responsibility to the staff to perform within established expectations.

9.            Demonstrates knowledge of PI (Process Improvement) and survey process.

10.        Ensures staff provides effective patient/family teaching.

11.        Ensures staff documents according to entity/department guidelines.

12.        Ensures policies and procedures relating to ICU and MSI are current and used in practice.

13.        In conjunction with the education department, provides orientation, education, preceptorship or quality improvement activities of the clinical departments.

14.        Monitors and assures the reconciliation of all charges into the billing system in a timely manner.

15.        Promote a seamless scheduling system for both elective and emergency procedures.    

16.        Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested.

·       Critical Care experience required

·       Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing, Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

·       BLS and ACLS required.

·       Successful completion of FH's pharmacology examination.

·       Possess good oral and written communication skills.

·       Experience with Microsoft Applications.
