These positions are located in Cape Cod National Seashore. Please visit find a park for additional park information.

These positions are Full-Time temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours (about 6 months) in a service year. Positions may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs. Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement may be eligible for rehire in subsequent service years provided the employee does not exceed 1039 hours of work in their service year.

Position closes May 11, 2018, however there will be cutoff dates until the positions are filled. Applicants who apply by the listed cutoff dates will be considered first when those lists are reviewed. First cutoff March 23, Second cutoff April 20. 

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Cape Cod National Seashore is June - September, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: June 2018

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

Serves as an ocean lifeguard at one of six protected Seashore beaches. Responsible for public safety, water oriented assists and rescues, enforces beach regulations, administers first aid, as well as providing informational services and interpretation to visitors. May assist with conservation and park protection programs, particularly during periods of inclement weather. Lifeguards must pass a preseason run/swim test. Required to be able to work outdoors for long periods of time. Position is for approximately 11 weeks during the summer months.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Lifeguard certificaion from a national recognized organization requried prior to entry on duty.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required prior to entry on duty.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirements for males.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • Valid state driver's license required.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  •  

EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of general experience. General Experience is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Examples of general experience would be working as a lifeguard at a YMCA, counselor at a summer camp, work as a leader with Boy Scout/Girl Scout clubs. You must include hours per week worked and mm/yy beginning and ending date for all periods of employment.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year above high school with some course work related to the position such as physical education or recreation. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
