The Summer of Science Instructor(s) are responsible (with the support of the CCAPE program coordinators) for implementing curriculum for the Summer of Science EMT Exploration from July 23 – July 27, 2018, and the Advanced EMT Exploration from July 30-August 3, 2018.  

EMT Exploration is open to students entering grades 6,7, and 8.  The instructor will be responsible for implementing this “hands-on science” program giving students the opportunity to become familiar with emergency services, investigate emergency equipment operations, and learn basic first-aid procedures. Students will talk about important procedures in medical and fire emergencies, and learn what EMT’s have to do in an emergency and rescue operation.

Advanced EMT Exploration is open to students entering grades 8 and 9.  The instructor will be responsible for implementing this “hands-on science” program giving students the opportunity to further enhance their emergency medical education by surveying various concepts including: CPR recertification, EpiPen education and practice with an EpiPen trainer, International Fund for Animal Welfare disaster presentation and animal first aid, mobile hospital simulator to practice basic skills learned, mobile healthcare delivery services orientation, aeromedical evacuation orientation and helicopter tour (weather permitting), outdoor basic search and rescue techniques, USCG water safety presentation, vital signs practical review, and scenario based discussions.

The instructor should be a professional middle/high school educator with distinguished teaching experiences in the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and/or health care. Applicant must have proficiency working with technology and STEM concepts.


1.    Work to implement the 2018 Summer of Science curriculum with a focus on an introduction to emergency response professions and advancing the student’s medical education.
2.    Align program objectives, instructional strategies, and apply meaningful connections to learning.
3.    Work enthusiastically with children.
4.    Approach education with passion and excitement.
5.    Lead groups of up to 15-20 students throughout the day’s educational activities.
6.    Work to create fun games, activities, arts and crafts, and more.
7.    Build positive group dynamics among students.
8.    Interact with parents in a professional and energetic manner.
9.    Help cultivate confidence and self-esteem, as well as natural love for learning.
10.    Coordinate with the EMT Program Coordinator on guest speakers for each day of the program.



1.    Bachelor's degree.
2.    Middle/high school teaching experience in the STEM disciplines. (Engineering, computer science, health care, and math/science middle/high school educators are encouraged to apply).
3.    Knowledge of and genuine interest in the topics covered in the Summer of Science program (robotics, physics, chemistry, computer programming, engineering, health care).
4.    Reliable, responsible, punctual, and fun to be around.
5.    Can attend all days of program, July 23 through July 27, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and/or July 30 through August 3, 2018, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
6.    Demonstrated ability to prioritize, work independently and take initiative.
7.    Effective classroom management skills.


1.    Master’s degree.
2.    Experience with summer youth programs.

COMPENSATION:    $30.00/hour, temporary, non-benefited.  35 hours of instruction July 23 - 27, 2018.  35 hours of instruction July 30 – August 3, 2018.
